Information For Homeowners

Creating warm, dry, and energy-efficient homes for a better today and tomorrow

Trust your family are living in a healthy and safe home.

At selectSIP, we are redefining the standard for healthy homes.

Select a unique level of comfort, with a higher insulation value – keeping you cool when it’s hot outside and warm when the temperature drops.

Our building system creates a controllable, airtight, stable interior home environment that is 50% to 70% more energy-efficient than a conventional wood-framed home. These features give you better air quality with healthy, balanced humidity.

Our panels are made with scientifically advanced, environmentally stable materials. They contain no volatile organic compounds (VOCs) which, if present, can increase the risk of respiratory health problems such as asthma.

Why is a healthy home important?

Where+we+spend+our+time

Cold and damp homes can increase the risk of respiratory issues and other preventable health conditions.

There is strong evidence of improved health outcomes resulting from warmer and drier homes. And, when we spend nearly 70% of our life in our homes (some of us up to 90%), making sure our homes are healthy is important.

“According to a 2015 BRANZ survey, almost half of New Zealand’s homes have mould. Mould, with its tiny spores, is at the root of many respiratory illnesses and asthma as well as some forms of gastroenteritis. Dust mites also thrive in humid environments, which can exacerbate allergies in some people.” Smarter Home NZ

With selectSIP you can trust your home is a healthy and safe environment.

Homes built using our system achieve a minimum 6 Homestar rating (NZ measure of the health, efficiency, and sustainability of homes). They consume less energy and have a high degree of thermal bridging – all creating consistent, controllable, airtight interior conditions. Most new truss and frame builds (to building code) achieve a 2 – 4 Homestar rating.

Additionally, our panels are non-nutrient and will not support the growth of harmful mould.

What makes our product the best choice for you?

Non-nutrient – meaning they will not support the growth of harmful mould, a major cause of sickness.

Free of chlorides – there are no chlorides or any other nasties in our product.

Free of any dangerous Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) – selectSIP panels are free of these harmful chemicals, which are found in many other building products today.

Water-stable – Our panels will not degrade when exposed to water.

Non-combustible – MgSO4 board has been certified as an official fire-resistant material in Canada. Here, it exceeds all fire testing requirements, causing no smoke or flame spread.

Built for extra high wind loads – The advanced engineering of selectSIP panels allows for longer spans and wind loads to “extra high”, with testing proven to support specific design for cyclone conditions.

Made to support large spans – selectSIP roof panels have been strength-tested and can hold a span of up to 7.2 metres. The advanced span performance comes from the unique box spline and the use of a pressed steel internal components.

Ductile, durable and remarkably strong – Our panels are proven to withstand high levels of tensile stress before deformation and failure. Constructed with safe, durable materials with high seismic performance, our panels are superior in performance to wood or steel-clad SIPs and truss and frame.

Insulation performance and airtightness

Use our building envelope system to reduce your energy costs.

Estimates suggest that SIP systems are up to 15 times more airtight than timber-framed new homes that use traditional fiberglass batt insulation, and suggest potential savings in energy costs of between 50% and 70%, over the life of the building. This means cost savings don’t end with the construction period.

selectSIP Envelope System

6+Star+Rating+white_Revised
  • Minimum 6 Homestar rating.

  • Airtight building envelope giving you complete, continuous insulation throughout your home. selectSIP are ip to 15 times more airtight than timber-framed new builds.

  • Minimum of 50% more energy-efficient than a conventional timber-framed wall

  • Insulation that won’t degrade

  • Potential savings in energy costs of between 50% and 70% over the life of the building.

Traditional New Home Construction

4Star+Rating+white_Revised
  • Most new builds – to building code – would achieve a 3 Homestar rating

  • Not airtight – up to 40% of a home’s heat can be lost due to air leakage

  • Up to 25% of the heat loss in your house can be caused by timber framing

  • Degradable insulation over time

  • Higher energy costs compared to air-tight building methods

No chemicals
No off-gassing
A healthier home

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are emitted as gases from many traditional building products. Once these chemicals are in our homes, they can be released or “off-gas” into the indoor air we breathe.

VOCs include a variety of chemicals, some of which may have short- and long-term adverse health effects. The most commonly used in today’s building products is Formaldehyde.

Our product does not contain VOCs and is made with environmentally stable materials, which means a healthier home for you, your family and the planet.

Less cost - more gain

As well as potential savings in energy costs of up to 70% over the life of the home, building with selectSIP panels is more efficient, easier to manage, and takes less time – all of which also adds up to potential cost savings.
