Homes built using our system achieve a minimum 6 Homestar rating – a New Zealand measure of health, efficiency, and sustainability. They consume less energy and have a high degree of thermal breaking that creates consistent, controllable air-tight interior conditions.
In comparison, most new homes built to code generally achieve a 2-4 Homestar rating.
Cold and damp conditions are not just a factor for old homes.
A brand-new truss and frame home (to building code) would achieve (on average) a 2 - 4 Homestar rating and can still have levels of cold and dampness.
This is because they are not airtight and have many thermal bridging points. These cold and damp conditions can increase the risk of respiratory issues and other preventable health conditions.
